La Gomera is perfect for walking, fishing and golfing. It's also known as the Columbus Island. In 1492, when Columbus sailed off towards the unknown, his last port of call was San Sebastian, the capital of La Gomera. Since then, the island has been known as Columbus Island (Isla Colombina). Several of the traditions of La Gomera have survived up to the present day, but the most famous of all is the whistling language (Gomeran Silbo), World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a method of communication capable of overcoming the limitations caused by the rugged terrain. When you visit our island, you should taste the Gofio, the goat cheese, the goat meat, the Almogrote, the palm honey, the mojos, the "papas arrugadas" and the famous watercress soup ("potaje de berros"). The best to come arround on the island is to rent a car with Piñero. The valley of Hermigua with the best clime in the world; and Agulo, known as the bombon de La Gomera. The National Park Garajonay, World Heritage Site by UNESCO, with its ancient laurel trees, its walking paths and the Visitors Centre in "Juego de Bolas". In the park you also can find "La Laguna Grande" and the "Jardin de Las Creces". Vallehermoso with Roque Cano and "Presa de La Encantadora". Other interesting places in Vallehermoso are: Los Organos an the monumental "Fortaleza" in Chipude. Valle Gran Rey with its picturesque terraces, the view point of Cesar Manrique an the lovely beaches. Alajero with its church "Virgen del Buen Paso". Playa Santiago harbour with Hotel Jardin Tecina and its famous golf court. As one may see, La Gomera offers a lot to spend unforgettable holidays.
